Freezin’ for a reason

Being cold is one of my least favorite things, and yet I’ve always wanted to do a polar plunge. Since I promised myself that I’d stop putting off what I want to do, I jumped on the chance to sign up for the Seattle Polar Plunge.

This wasn’t just something on my bucket list—it was for a good cause! The event raised awareness and funds for Special Olympics Washington.

Even so, I discovered that a polar plunge is a tough sell on the recruiting front, especially when the weather forecast calls for lots of snow in a city that completely shuts down at the mere hint of a snowflake. (The event ended up being postponed two weeks due to Seattle’s “Snowpocalypse 2019.”) I’m lucky to have a couple adventurous friends who are up for anything!

We were a few of 900+ people who signed up for the polar plunge and helped raise more than $167,000 to support the 18,000 Special Olympic athletes across the state.

Thank you, Julie and Pat, for braving the icy waters of Puget Sound with me on a 41°F day. I certainly didn’t expect it to RAIN, SLEET, AND HAIL on us! I’m also very grateful to my team members, Muma, Markus, and Garret for making a donation!

Here are some pictures from the big plunge on Alki Beach:
